The establishment of Shri Shiv Chhatrapati College in 1970 marked a significant milestone in the history of higher education in the Western Pune District of Maharashtra. Initially operating in the building of the Junnar Education Society in 1977, the college soon moved to its own premises, beginning operations there in June of the same year. Spanning 18 acres, SSC College, Junnar, is renowned for its state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities, catering to the higher education needs of rural students.

Affiliated with Savitribai Phule Pune University (formerly University of Pune), the college offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses in Arts, Commerce, Science, BBA, and BCA. Additionally, the college hosts research centers in Commerce and Zoology, facilitating extensive research in these fields.
