About The J.T.S.S.P.M.

The college was founded in 1970 under the intellectual and academic leadership of the famous economist Hon. Shri Govardhandas Parikh, the then Rector, Bombay University. The first Chairman, eminent Royist G.D. Parikh dreamt of bringing knowledge from Pune and Mumbai to a remote place such as Junnar to uplift the masses. In 1970 a peasant’s son, a tribal’s progeny from this area had no chance of higher education, despite its being a treasure of “brain”. The Junnar Taluka Shivner Shikshan Prasarak Mandal established then, had the only aim of leading the downtrodden, backward and tribal masses from darkness to light, from illiteracy to higher education.

ABOUT J.T.S.S.P.M.

The college, founded in 1970, emerged under the guidance of the renowned economist Hon. Shri Govardhandas Parikh, then Rector of Bombay University. In coordination with the founder chairman Honourable Shri. Shivajirao Mahadevrao alias Dadasaheb Kale (Ex-MLA), the first Chairman, G.D. Parikh, envisioned bringing knowledge from Pune and Mumbai to Junnar, aiming to uplift the local masses. In 1970, higher education was nearly inaccessible to the children of peasants and tribal in this region, despite their intellectual potential.

The Junnar Taluka Shivner Shikshan Prasarak Mandal (J.T.S.S.P.M.) was established with the sole purpose of advancing education for the downtrodden, backward, and tribal communities, symbolically inspired by Chhatrapati Shri Shivaji Maharaj, born in Junnar, to encourage a fight against ignorance with pens and brains instead of swords.

Successors of the first chairman, such as Sahakarmaharshi Shri. Shivajirao Mahaevrao alias Dadasaheb Kale (Ex-MLA), and colleagues like Hon. Late Nivruttisheth Sherkar, Hon. Adv. G.S. Rokade, Hon. Adv. Capt. V.B. Purvant, Hon. Dr. I.M. Mokashi, Hon. Shri S.D. Lunawat, and Hon. Shri N.A. Gandhi, furthered this vision. They collectively believed in transforming this area into a learning centre through this college.

The institution, guided by the principle “Awake, arise or be forever fallen” focuses on educating the tribal and weaker sections of society. This region epitomizes poverty, and the college adheres to Mahatma Phule’s dictum “Ignorance leads to all harms” striving to promote education and progress. The college's establishment was made possible by a 10-acre land donation from Hon. Shri. Ganpatrao Bodke.

The J.T.S.S.P. Mandal has been fortunate in acquiring dedicated staff committed to its mission. Activities such as sports, N.S.S. Camps, N.C.C. Camps, annual social gatherings, and national and state-level seminars and workshops supplement academic pursuits and help instil the college’s mission in students.

In 2007-08, the college was honoured as "THE BEST COLLEGE IN RURAL AREA" by the Savitribai Phule Pune University (previously named as University of Pune), recognizing the positive impact of various activities on rural students' development. The college maintains a transparent admission process open to all, following the Savtribai Phule Pune University and State Government norms. Special care is provided to weaker sections through remedial courses, personal counselling, and advisory schemes. The institution ensures access to knowledge for disadvantaged and disabled students, adhering to recruitment rules of SPPU, Pune and the State Government.

The college employs a structured teaching-learning process, combining conventional lectures with innovative ICT-based learning. Teaching schedules and methods are meticulously planned, emphasizing participative learning with computers, audio-visual aids, and library resources. Departments invite esteemed Resource Persons for seminars, workshops, and extension lectures. Well-equipped laboratories support science and commerce departments, enhancing educational experiences. The Managing Committee is dedicated to promoting quality in higher education, ensuring financial and infrastructural support for effective and productive teaching-learning processes. The college continually fosters an academic culture oriented toward self-appraisal and internal corrections, striving for excellence.
